Reading/language arts update:
The Reading goal for this month is one chapter book and two science non-fiction books. Quizzes must be taken by January 31st.
We have completed our novel studies and will be moving back to the reading textbook. I have posted this week's spelling words on Spellingcity.com. The test for these words will be Friday, Jan. 10th. The comprehension and grammar test will be next week.
Term 2 report cards will be sent home on Thursday, January 9th. Please review them with your child, celebrate the improvements and talk about strategies to improve for the next nine weeks. Sign and return the envelope as soon as possible.
I will be putting a note in the report envelopes of those students and parents with whom I would like to schedule a conference. Conference night is January 16th from 5:00-7:00, but I am also available to meet in the morning before school or afterschool if that night is not convenient. Please contact me as soon as possible to schedule a meeting. Thanks.
We will be taking the District 1st Semester Social Studies test in two weeks. This week and next we will be finishing up Unit 4. I emailed the District study guide to both classes just before Winter Break. Please let me know if you would like me to resend it. This test will be comprehensive from Unit 1-4 and include the document analysis skills we used for the DBQs. I am also reviewing how to take notes and encouraging the students to take their notes and textbooks home after each class to make sure the notes are complete and legible.
I would once again like to express my gratitude for the holiday gifts, cards and treats. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and thank you all for thinking of me.
Happy 2014, it's going to be a great year!
