Our first full week went very well! I was pleased with the turnout for Open House and enjoyed speaking with so many of you. I know that we will accomplish great things this year in 5th grade!
Manatee Elementary would like to invite you to our first Family Night of the year at Chick-Fil-A. Please join us between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 25 for great food, fun, and a surprise visitor. Part of the proceeds come back directly to Manatee Elementary so this is a great (and tasty) way to support our school. We look forward to seeing you there!
Reading: Our story for the week is Davy Crockett. The comprehension strategies that we will be discussing are story structure and plot development. Story structure looks at how the author has organized the events of the plot using story elements such as setting. Plot is the series of events that make up the story. The parts of the story include the beginning, the middle (which includes the rising action) the conflict, and the climax; and the end which includes the falling action and conflict resolution.
Spelling/Grammar: Spelling words this week will consist of words with long vowels sounds. The grammar skill is subjects and predicates. Students will be able to identify the simple subject, complete subject, simple predicate, and the complete predicate of a sentence.
