Monthly Reading Goal

Beginning in September, students will have a monthly reading goal. For September they should read one Fiction chapter book and two non-fiction science books. These books should be close to their Lexile reading level. Since we will not be testing their levels until mid September, books should be at least 4th grade level or aboveJ Once they have completed a book they will take the Reading Counts quiz and their grades will be averaged for a grade. They are encouraged to read more than 3 books and take the quizzes, but three is the minimum. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Here's what we will be learning this week

  • Reading:  Our story this week is a nonfiction article called Forests of the World.  The skills of focus are compare/contrast and homographs
  • September Reading Goal: 1 fiction chapter book & 2 nonfictions. These books should be completed by Friday, September 30th.
  • Grammar/Spelling:  This week's spelling list consists of words with the /u/ sound like tuna, doom, prove, hue, view.  The grammar skill is compound sentences, conjunctions and how to use commas properly.
