Did You Know?

 Kids who are educated in the importance of online safety are more likely to take steps to keep themselves safe online than kids who aren't educated.

One out of five teenagers uses their cell phones to go online. Of those who do, one out of five say their parents don't know that they do this.

One half of all teenagers post their real age on social networking sites. Two out of five post the name of the city where they live.

 While 25 percent of 13- to 15-year-olds think it's unsafe to post personal stuff online, only 14 percent of 16- to 18-year-olds feel the same way.

 Two out of five teenagers are exposed to pornography online.

Two out of three teenagers say that cyber-bullying is a serious problem. One out of three says that online bullying is worse than being bullied in person.

FCAT Focus

Students should be utilizing the FCAT Focus website at home. They have all accessed it here in the classroom and have their passwords. Beginning next week, specific lessons will be assigned as homework.

Monthly Reading Goal

My students were given a new Reading log on Monday to be completed nightly and signed by a parent at the end of each week. The log includes a space for their monthly reading goal. (# of words read) Each week I will update their log to show how many words they have read so far. The class that reads the most words this month will receive an award. Research indicates that the more students read the better readers they become. Please encourage your child to meet or exceed his individual goal for the month.

Conference Night

January 25th is conference night. Please let me know if you would like a timeslot reserved. I will be here from 5:00 – 7:00.

Finally, thank you to Mrs. Dribble and all the parents who contributed items for our holiday celebration and ornaments. I appreciate all of the support. I hope that you all had a very restful and stress free break. I am looking forward to 2012 and the rest of the school year. Thank you, as well, for all the lovely gifts and cards. I feel very blessed to have such a great class with great families.
