March Reading Goal

The reading goal for March is one Fantasy Chapter book and one Science non-fiction. The quizzes must be taken before Spring Break (March 22). I have several students who have not consistently met the monthly goals. They have a new "reading plan". They have a reading log on which they should record the books, author, pages read and a short 2-3 sentence summary of what was read. This must be completed each night, Monday thru Thursday. I know this is a very busy time of year, however, academics should come first and I don't think that reading for twenty minutes on top of the nightly homework should be a burden for anyone. If this creates a problem, please let me know so that we can discuss it.

Social Studies

We have completed the Valley Forge DBQ. During the next few weeks we will be finishing up Unit 5. There will be a test at the end of Unit 5. I also offered students the opportunity to do some Extra Credit. They are asked to write a Historical fiction story that takes place during the time of the American Revolution. They are allowed to work with one partner if they wish. Their story should involve real places and events that took place during the Revolution. Several students have already shared their ideas and they have some great ones. In the next week I will put together a Rubric listing out exactly what the stories should include. Final books are due April 5th. Their grade on the book will count as an extra quiz grade. Please let me know if you have any questions about this assignment.
