Reading Update: Because we have not had access to the Reading Counts quizzes until this week, I have extended the deadline for the September Reading Goal until October 16th. The goal is two science non-fiction books, one social studies book from True Flix, and one chapter book. All quizzes must be taken by Oct. 16th at 2:30.
This week's reading story is "Off and Running" Realistic fiction. Students will use this text to compare and contrast characters and viewpoints, explore the meanings of idioms and differentiate between formal and informal language. Vocabulary homework is due on Friday, students have written the format in their notebooks. The reading assessment covering the vocabulary and skills will be on Friday.
We started our first DBQ today: "Which of the Mayan's Achievements was the most remarkable?" We will have Social Studies every day this week to get through the DBQ and essay. This DBQ will be done with a great deal of teacher support for the document analysis and the essay. Gradually, the teacher support will diminish as we complete the next two DBQ's this year.
Next week, my homeroom will have Science every day while I do the DBQ with Mrs. Hobson's class. Don't forget, the next Science project deadline is September 26th.
