Our main selection this week is "Storm Warriors", a historical fiction story set in 1895. Our reading skill is conclusions and generalizations – using details to explain ideas that aren't stated or are generally true. We will also be writing a persuasive essay.
My class was given an Explorer Project today which is due on Friday. They are creating a pretend Facebook page for their explorer and will have to create a map showing their journeys. The assignment and Facebook template have been uploaded to their Google Docs acct. We worked on accessing them today. Their grade will be based on their presentation, fact sheet and map. Some of them are working with a partner.
Reading Counts Goal for this month is one Sunshine State book, one Science non-fiction and one Social Studies Trueflix. All tests must be taken by November 14th.
Thank you to Mrs. Goldenberg, Mrs. Toledo and Mrs. Raver for providing us with a delicious Harvest Celebration.
Manatee families! We are once again collecting Pop Tops for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This is our 11th year supporting the local program that offers discounted stays in the RMH in Orlando. Throughout the past 10 years we have collected over 4000 lbs. of pop tops which has enabled us to donate close to $2000 to the charity. Please send in your pop tops at any point throughout the year. Homeroom teachers will collect the tops for classroom prizes awarded in May. Tops will be taken to the recycling center in April for the final donation. Don't forget to ask your families from out of town if they can collect for you as well. Put out collection containers at work, extracurricular activities, and any place you can think of. Thank you for helping us support this worthwhile cause all of these years!
