This Friday, November 8th is Crazy Hat Day for United Way. Bring in 50¢ and students can wear a hat. Ms. Judy LaRoche will be collecting the money in the lobby between 7:30 and 8:00 Friday morning.
No School, Monday, November 11th. We will be talking about this important holiday in school. I encourage you to discuss it at home as well. Students asked if we can write letters to Veterans in our community. I try to do this each year, but it was very enlightening to hear it from them first earlier this week! I will deliver them to the Veterans' Hospital here in Viera. If you have a connection to a place that might also appreciate the letters, please call or email me.

Social Studies Research Project!
Today your child brought our Social Studies book home. Please allow your child to pick a Native American region that he/she wants to depict as a Museum Display. This is the Big Idea project for our Unit 2 that we started last week. I wanted to give families plenty of time to start on this. It can be on a poster board or in a shoe box as a diorama. Be creative and let your child do the work, including the research while you oversee the overall project. This will be due on or before November 26.
Pop Top Collection Continues as an 11 year tradition at Manatee……
Manatee families! We are once again collecting Pop Tops for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This is our eleventh year supporting the local program that offers discounted stays in the RMH in Orlando. Throughout the past 10 years we have collected over 4000 lbs. of pop tops which has enabled us to donate close to $2000 to the charity. Please send in your pop tops at any point throughout the year. Homeroom teachers will collect the tops for classroom prizes awarded in May. Tops will be taken to the recycling center in April for the final donation. Don't forget to ask your families from out of town if they can collect for you as well. Put out collection containers at work, extracurricular activities, and any place you can think of. Thank you for helping us support this worthwhile cause all of these years!
Book It! Calendar for November is due on December 2nd – Students are really reading up a storm and turning in calendars! Parents, please double check that your child is reading grade level appropriate material. Please sign the bottom of the calendar and have your child sign, also. Thank you for encouraging lots of reading from the home front. J

Spencer, the Trained Dog
Every other Tuesday, Mrs. French, and her very calm, loving poodle come to visit our classroom for about 20 minutes. Mrs. French reads a story to our class, while Spencer relaxes and allows students to pet him if they so choose. Students are welcome to sit wherever they want when Spencer is in the room. Let me know if you have any concern(s) regarding this bimonthly visit.
