HOMEWORK WILL NOT RESUME UNTIL THE WEEK OF January 14th. I will NOT be continuing with calendars unless you personally email me and tell me you would like a calendar daily. The kids have been doing great and work well when redirected. I also will be changing their reading groups in January. I went ahead and changed their Raz-Kids levels. Expectations will change as I will expect more from them as we move into 2014. More information will be conveyed as we move into the New Year.
- KIDS RETURN FROM WINTER BREAK ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 7TH.
- Report Cards will be issued on January 9th.
- CONFERENCE NIGHT IS JANUARY 16TH! IF WE HAVE NOT HAD A CONFERENCE THIS YEAR IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE SIT DOWN AT THAT TIME AND TOUCH BASE ABOUT YOUR CHILD'S PROGRESS IN FIRST GRADE.
I want to say good bye to a very sweet college student Miranda Foster who has been coming in and helping our class every week. She is headed off to college and the kids are just going to miss her dearly!
Next week we will be researching holidays and exploring history, traditions, and food from around the world. I want to thank all my parents who were so generous to say yes to donate an item for this week long event!
Our Book Exchange is Tuesday the 18th. We have been putting books under our tree all week long. This is always a fun event for the kids!
In Math, we just finished a week of review and math centers. The kids took a district required math test and did great! They still could use help with VERBALIZING STRATEGIES! We will be working on place value < > = when we come back from break. I can't tell you enough how important it is that they are able to use these strategies when figuring out their math problems. We review these strategies daily but I think it would be helpful for you to work with your child at home too.
In Social Studies students we researched famous people and they presented as a group to the class this week. We also took the district required exam and the kids did great! Next week we will learning about different countries and how they celebrate the holidays.
EARLY DISMISSAL NEXT WEEK ON WEDNESDAY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY! Dismissal is at 1:15!
We came in 3rd place in 1st grade for November/December Reading Rocks program. We now have a "guitar" hanging from our bulletin board for the month of January!
PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING IN A NEW SET OF CRAYONS AFTER WINTER BREAK SO THEY CAN FRESHEN UP THEIR BAGGIES. They have used them up and some are broken and in small pieces. It will be nice for them to come back and have fresh crayons.
I hope everyone has a great winter break and enjoys spending time with family and friends! Have a great holiday and a happy and healthy new year!
Holiday time is a great time for children to show off their reading skills to family and friends. Have your child read their favorite book to family and friends. I think everyone will enjoy a good book being read to them by an awesome first grader!
