Look out this TUESDAY for a project coming home. Every year Manatee Elementary participates in a quality literature day and 2 children from each classroom participate in a celebration for young authors. Each student will be writing a book at home. The guidelines will be stated on the paper going home tomorrow. All students will have PLENTY of time to complete the book and I will even be assigning it as homework one week in March! Look for the letter and as always you can email any questions you have regarding the book!

We will be having a sundae "friendship" party on Valentine's Day. I am sending home a note asking for parent donations so the kids can make their own sudaes! I am also sending home a list so the kids can make valentines for the class!

Early Release Day is February 12th at 1:15p.m.

There is a student holiday on Monday, February 17th for students. All teachers will have a professional development day!

The kids have started to learn their songs for our performance in March. Mark your calendars: March 6th at 6:00p.m.

Field Trip forms went home a while ago. We are going to the Planetarium in March. Please get those forms in by February 14th.

All students received their Unit 4 books. We worked on long e and we will be working on long ai ay this week. We will also be continuing to work on inflectional endings.

In Math, we finished up working on greater than, less than, and are now working on mental math of plus 10, subtract 10. We are working hard on NOT using the 100's chart but create mental pictures in our head to problem solve. I have noticed that some students need PRACTICE on their strategies. I reviewed them this past week and it seems that we need to revisit some of these strategies.

In Science we are studying the sun and stars. This week we made a model of the sun and will be learning about shadows this coming week and clouds. The following week we will take a look at the planets!

In Social Studies we are learning all about Florida. We will continue to learn all about the state we live in this week!

Interims will be going home on February 13th. If you would like to conference with me feel free to email me and we can set up a time.

We are recycling all magazines, newspapers, capri suns, ink cartridges, and cell phones at this time. Please bring in any of these items and we will recycle them for you!
