Mrs. LaSala's 1st Grade Class
Welcome-I am so excited to begin the 2013-2014 school year with all of your children. Florida has continued to adopt Common Core Standards for grades 3-6 for Language Arts and Math. I am excited to continue incorporating these new standards this year. Common Core Standards are designed to help your child become career and college ready as they continue their education. Brevard Public Schools will continue to roll out these standards until they are completely implemented in elementary, middle, and high school. Full implementation will be in 2014-2015 school year. These standards provide a clear understanding of what your child is expected to learn. Please visit www.corestandards.org for more information.
In 1st grade your child will be working hard learning to become a great reader and will be reading daily and discussing what he/she is reading along with incorporating science and social studies concepts and quality reading strategies. Math is also a very important part of 1st grade. Your child will be working in cooperative groups and problem solving on a daily basis. This is going to be a great year!
Attendance-It is important for your child to be on-time to school every day. If your child is absent please send in a written note.
Tardies- We have a policy set in place that states if your child is tardy 3 times a phone call will be made to remind you to get your child to school on time. If your child is tardy more than 3 times he/she will have to serve a detention.
Snack- It is strongly suggested that your child bring a small,
nutritious snack to school each day. Please be sure that this healthy snack has your child's name on it and can be easily opened by your child. I do not keep any snacks here at school. It is your responsibility to pack a healthy snack for your child each day. This may consist of fruits, vegetables, crackers, cheese, yogurt, nuts, granola bars, etc.
NO CANDY, SODA, SWEETS, CHEETOS, DORITOS, POTATO CHIPS OR CHOCOLATE DURING SNACK TIME.
NO JUICE BOXES are permitted during snack time. Your child may bring in a water bottle and he/she can keep it in his/her cubby.
Dismissal-You must have a written note or fax a note if you are changing the way your child goes home. If you call my classroom and I do not answer DO NOT leave a message
for dismissal there is a good possibility I may not see the message in time. If your child is a walker or bike rider please have a rainy day arrangement on file with me.
Activity-This year we will have a six day rotation for activity. It is VERY important that your child wears the appropriate shoes for P.E. and supplemental P.E. If your child does not wear the appropriate shoes he/she can NOT participate in P.E. or play and run during supplemental P.E. I suggest for my girls who enjoy wearing sandals to school to keep an old pair of sneakers in their cubby so she will never have to miss physical exercise. J
