Our class is participating in the "Reading Rocks" program again this school year. This program runs from October to March. Each month students will read books and record what they have read on their recording sheet. When students complete the goal sheet at the end of the month they will return it back to me. Classes with the most books read get to display a "Huge" reading rocks guitar by their classroom door for the month!

This week we are working out of a different reading book. We are reading "From Seed to Pumpkin" this book will also correlate with science this week as we explore pumpkins. Students will not have homework this week. We are preparing to take a district required reading test this week and will be focusing on a review of nouns, verbs, adjectives, short vowels, main idea, characters, and setting, along with reading our story for the week! THERE WILL NOT BE A SPELLING/DICTATION TEST THIS WEEK.

In Math we are busy continuing to work on daily with addends, sums, number sentences, zero strategy, communitive property, doubles, near doubles, one more, two more, 10 plus, and of course sums of ten strategies. We are working with addition and subtraction and fact families. Please use flash cards up to 20 and have your child tell you about the strategies they are learning. Constent reinforcement of strategies will help them become great problem solvers in Math!

In Science we finished our life science unit and all students took the district required test on life science. THEY DID FABULOUS!!!! This week we are learning about pumpkins! We will be studying land and water as we move to our earth science unit.

We learned about our constitution, we celebrated freedom week and we are continuing to learn about the importance of american symbols. We also worked on me books. This week we are learning about fire safety and will be learning about Christopher Columbus next week!

We are recycling all magazines, newspapers, Capri Suns, ink cartridges, and cell phones at this time. Please bring in any of these items and we will recycle them for you!
