Our classroom is low on treats for the students. This would be a perfect time for anyone wishing to donate some "leftover" Halloween candy that is individually wrapped. This would be greatly appreciated!
A big thank you goes out to all my parents who donated items and those parents who came in and helped out with our fall centers! The kids had a great time!
Time lines are due on November 12th. Please make sure the kids are writing in all the dates and are able to present their time line.
October was our first month participating in the reading rocks program. Each month your child records the books that he or she is reading at home and is eligible for a pizza gift certificate from Pizza Hut. This is just another fun way to promote reading at home! Please encourage your child to participate in this great program!
Manatee families! We are once again collecting Pop Tops for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This is our 11th year supporting the local program that offers discounted stays in the RMH in Orlando. Throughout the past 10 years we have collected over 4000 lbs. of pop tops which has enabled us to donate close to $2000 to the charity. Please send in your pop tops at any point throughout the year. Homeroom teachers will collect the tops for classroom prizes awarded in May. Tops will be taken to the recycling center in April for the final donation. Don't forget to ask your families from out of town if they can collect for you as well. Put out collection containers at work, extracurricular activities, and any place you can think of. Thank you for helping us support this worthwhile cause all of these years!

We have finished yet another unit in reading and will begin unit 3 this week. We continue to revisit nouns, "ed" "ing" endings, digraphs, adjectives, blends, along with s, es endings, and irregular plural nouns. Please work on these skills with your child nightly. Each week we work on comparing 2 stories. We use story maps and reading response logs weekly. Look over all work that comes home and help reinforce the skills we are learning each day.
In Math we are continuing to work on place value this week. Next week we will be working on subtraction. Please work on reviewing ALL strategies. It is important for your child to use these strategies daily. These strategies will help him/her with problem solving. Doubles, near dou bles, zero strategy, one more, two more, ten plus, and sums of ten should all be strategies that ALL students are familiar with.
We will be working on our class science fair project thtis week. The children will be working on a booklet detailing the scientific process and performing our class experiment.
In Social Studies we will be comparing school life and family life then and now.
We are recycling all magazines, newspapers, capri suns, ink cartridges, and cell phones at this time. Please bring in any of these items and we will recycle them for you!
