Please mark your calendars as a school holiday on Monday, Jan. 18th in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday
Fast Start Poem, January Calendar, Book It recording sheet
If you could not find any of the above listed items in your child’s Friday folder, it is because I failed to run them off…..I will double the poems for next Friday and include the other 2 missing items. Sorry for the delay, I couldn’t remember if I sent the calendar and “book it” ahead of time in the last Dec. Friday folder or not…. but just in case, I will include it again in this coming Friday folder. Sorry!
Writer Wall of Fame
Congratulations to Cody who will be recognized on Tuesday (12th) for being selected as this week’s “Writer Wall of Fame” recipient. The “writer wall of fame” wall is in the cafeteria and all recipients will have their writing posted for one week. They will also be spotlighted on our morning Manatee news program where they will receive a special writing pencil as well as waving to their TV audience. Stay tuned for next weeks Writer Wall of Fame recipient. This broadcast can be viewed by logging onto our website and clicking on the CCTV icon.
Friday, December 18th completed our 2nd progress period and completion of 1st semester. Progress reports will go home on Thursday January 14th.
Please note: It is time to get back in to the routine of packing a daily snack. We have a few students who are forgetting to bring in a daily snack. Please remember that we have snack time every day and your child is responsible for bringing in their own daily snack. Please make this a part of your morning routine or have it as part of your nighttime routine to put it in the backpack the night before.
Kindergarten Awards Ceremony
Thursday, January 21st will be our 2nd Kindergarten Awards Ceremony and it will be held in the cafeteria at 8:15. If your child is receiving an award, an invitation will be in the January 15th Friday folder. (I will also email you to inform you that your child will be an award recipient) Anyone is welcome to attend the ceremony but I want to make sure that the parents of the recipients that are receiving the award have been notified for support and photo opportunities.
As we enter into the 3rd progress period, the pace will pick up as well as the skill levels becoming more complex. With this increase in responsibility come the expectations of positive behavior as well. I expect to give fewer reminders and more compliments! The journey to the treasure box will also increase. The students will now need 20 stickers on their pouch in order to visit the treasure box to reward them for their fantastic choice of great positive behavior. This will be the last step increase in the treasure box journey.
If your child has not brought back their art shirt, please put it in their backpack so that they will be prepared for their next Art activity day.
On chilly mornings, please pack a jacket with your child. On really cold days, students will not be allowed to go outside unless they have a jacket. Thanks for your cooperation, this is one way to keep everyone well, warm, and healthy…hopefully!
100th Day Celebration Kindergarten will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Tuesday January 26th. Our room mom, Mrs. Freeman, will be contacting you for volunteer opportunities as well as donations that will be needed. It is going to be a fun-filled day and everyone is welcome to come out and join us. There are 2 events scheduled where you can watch the excitement or join in. The first will be a 100 day assembly in the cafeteria at 8:20-8:50 where the k students will sing, count, and we will have a special visitor come and present our 100 day perfect attendance recipients. This will be followed by their normal activity time 8:55-9:35. At 10:00, we will be going outside for about 1 ½ hours to participate in 7 stations that are related to the theme of Zero the Hero and 100 days. Lunch for our 100th day will be the same schedule and our afternoon will consist of activities in the classroom pertaining to 100. If you would like to come out to watch the 100th day Assembly at 8:20 or the 100th day stations at 10, please feel free to join us for these 2 activities.
One activity that your child can participate in before the official 100th day is that of donating items for needy animals. Our class is going to accept the challenge from Mrs. Bunner, a 2nd grade teacher at Manatee, and try to collect 100 items to donate to a local animal organization, the Humane Society, as part of our 100th day celebration. Donations can be dry and canned dog/cat food, toys, snacks, blankets, old towels, (many of the dogs are sleeping on cold concrete floors) etc. anything that an animal shelter could use. If you would like to participate in this opportunity of giving, please send the animal donations for our class challenge by Thursday, Jan. 21 (which is the 100th day of school for grades 1-6). Please have your child bring their donated item(s) to our classroom where we will keep count until we hit 100 items. Since we have 20 students, if each child could donate several items, then we will successfully get to 100 even faster……thanks again for helping out a local organization in need, the animals will greatly benefit from any donation given.
Looking ahead……On Friday February 12th, we will celebrate “friends and friendship”. Our day will focus on the theme around “friends´ and we will be reading several stories about friendship. Each student will be given the opportunity to pass out friendship cards if they want to. There are two rules for giving out friendship cards: 1) if you plan on passing out cards, then everyone will need to receive a card. 2) Please do NOT address the cards, only put who they are from on the outside. Additional information will be given closer to the date. We will celebrate our special day with a very low key “cookies and punch” snack sometime during our special day.
Box Tops, Campbell Soup Labels, Capri Sun Pouches & Pop Tops
Manatee will continue to collect General Mills box tops and the UPC from Campbell soup labels all year long as well as Capri Sun pouches. This is a great, easy way that you can help our PTO fund requests for classroom materials and manipulative request from teachers. Clipping these items will only cost you minimal time and effort. We are also collecting pop top tabs as we support the Ronald McDonald house thorough tab donations.
Homework (Fast Start)
This is just a friendly reminder that when you return the weekly homework “Fast Start” poems, papers, forms, correspondence, please remember to have your child write their name on their paper. Thanks J
Please note: In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. school will be closed on Monday, January 18th.
