Monday is a Student Holiday in honor of President’s Day. Please make a note of this change in next weeks schedule.  Teachers will be working on Monday as it is a professional development day but the students have it off.  I look forward to having everyone return on Tuesday. Enjoy your 3-day weekend!!!

Writer Wall of Fame

Our next Writing Wall of Fame recipient was announced today due to the Florida Writes Assessment on Tuesday.  Congratulations to Robbie for being selected as this week’s writing wall of Fame winner.  His writing will be posted on the cafeteria “Writing Wall of Fame” for one week and he will appear on Manatee TV as well as receive a special “Writing Wall of Fame” pencil.  This broadcast can be viewed by logging onto our website and clicking on the CCTV icon. We only have four more writing wall of fame opportunities left this year. I wonder who will be recognized next?

Ms. Kroger takes over J

Starting on Tuesday, Ms. Kroger, our senior intern from UCF will be taking over the reins as she begins her full time teaching internship.  I will be in and out of the classroom but she will be in charge for the next few weeks. We will both be checking emails so if you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to ask.  I am excited about this new adventure.  She has already been taking over and teaching different subjects throughout the last couple of weeks.  We are still planning lessons together and she has been directed as to what areas and standards need to be covered.  She has done a fabulous job so far and I look forward to mentoring her and observing her creative teaching.

Scholastic Book and software order

I have opened the online ordering for the March Scholastic book and software orders. The order forms are in today's Friday folder.  You may either send in payment to me (but made payable to Scholastic) with your order or you can access the order form online and pay by credit card. The ordering deadline will be open until Friday. Feb. 26th at which time the ordering window will automatically close online.

Friendship day

What a fabulous celebration of Friendship we had today.  Thank you for all of the “treats” that you gave Ms. Kroger and I.  The students enjoyed listening to stories about Friends as well as passing out their special Friendship cards.  Please ask your child to retell you one of the stories that they heard today about friendship.   As our theme today focused on  “friends´ and “friendship”, some of the activities that we participated in was graphing friendship hearts, making friendship bears to go along with one of our Friendship day stories, and we also created friendship day heart card holders. We ended our celebration day with a special cookie and punch celebration with all of our friends before writing in our daily journals about our favorite part of friendship day.   It has been a very fun day celebrating Friendship.

 "Welcome to the Jungle”

Kindergarten Performance…Mark your calendars!!!

Jungle fever is running rampant in our room. I see monkeys, tigers, parrots, giraffes, hippos, a little mouse and storytellers everywhere.  The reason for this is that your child’s kindergarten play assignment was distributed today in the Friday folders. We went through the list of speakers so that everyone would have a chance to say their part at least one time. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, March 25th @ 5:30.  Our kindergarten class will be performing the musical “Welcome to the Jungle” with two other kindergarten classes and you will not want to miss this.  The program will begin at 5:30 but the students will need to arrive to the classroom at 5:00.  Since we have 7 kindergarten classes, 3 classes will perform at 5:30 and the other 4 classes will perform at 6:30.  The show will last approximately 30 min. which will give us time to exit before the next group of eager parents arrive. Along with the part assignment, there is also a letter describing what you will need to provide as far as clothing/costume for your child/animal. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Chick-Fil-A night

Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 4th from 5-8 pm to come out and have dinner while you support our kindergarten at the same time. Manatee will be hosting a Chick-Fil-A night at the local Chick-Fil-a store in Viera on Wickham road.  The Kindergarten classes will be receiving a percentage of the sales to use within the grade level. Come out and support Manatee on March 4th and have dinner while you watch your teacher work!!!  I will be busy greeting, passing out goodies/prizes, making milkshakes and a little bit of everything. I hope to see you there.

Snack: Please remember that we have snack time every day and your child is responsible for bringing in their own daily snack.  Please make this a part of your morning routine or have it as part of your nighttime routine to put it in the backpack the night before.

Don’t forget to keep clipping saving and sending in the following items:

Box Tops, Campbell Soup Labels, Capri Sun Pouches & Pop Tops

Manatee will continue to collect General Mills box tops and the UPC from Campbell soup labels all year long as well as Capri Sun pouches.   This is a great, easy way that you can help our PTO fund requests for classroom materials and manipulative request from teachers. Clipping these items will only cost you minimal time and effort. We are also collecting pop top tabs as we support the Ronald McDonald house through tab donations.
