Writer Wall of Fame
Congratulations to Raina who was selected to represent our class on the Writer Wall of Fame for this week. Her writing is posted on the cafeteria “Writing Wall of Fame” area. She appeared on TV Tuesday and received her second “Writing Wall of Fame” pencil. This broadcast can be viewed by logging onto our website and clicking on the CCTV icon. We only have three more writing wall of fame opportunities left this year. I wonder who will be represent our class next on the writing wall of fame?
Ms. Kroger takes over J
Ms. Kroger has successfully completed her first week of teaching full time in our classroom. The students are learning about weather, simple machines, symmetry, the letter Ee and things that begin with the sound of /e/. Just as a reminder, I will be in and out of the classroom but she will be in charge for the next few weeks. We will both be checking emails so if you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to ask. I am excited about this new adventure. We are still planning lessons together and she has been directed as to what areas and standards need to be covered. She has done a fabulous job so far and I look forward to mentoring her and observing her creative teaching.
Pizza Gallery Field trip
This is a reminder of our field trip on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd to the Pizza Gallery. We will leave by bus at 9:30 and return by approximately 11:30-12ish. Do not send a lunch with your child on Tuesday as we will be having a pizza lunch! Also, please send your child wearing their blue class shirt. If your child has any allergies to any possible pizza ingredient, please let me know in a reminder email. (pizza dough ingredients, sauce, cheese and pepperoni) Our Room Mom will be chaperoning this trip as a special thank-you for taking on such a huge role this year and serving as our room mom. This is a special bonus trip for her. We ask again that you respect our request that you may not show up at the door that day. The restaurant is closed to the public during our visit and only chaperones approved for the trip as well as students will be allowed inside. This is a great community connection for our class since the Pizza Gallery is one of Manatee’s business partners. If you have any questions please let me know.
Scholastic Book and software order
The online ordering for the March Scholastic book and software orders is available until next Friday, Feb. 26th. The order forms went home in last week’s Friday folder. You can either send in payment to me (but made payable to Scholastic) with your paper order or you can access the order form online and pay by credit card using the ID and password from last weeks scholastic letter that was put in the Friday folder. Once again, the ordering deadline is Friday. Feb. 26th at which time, the ordering window automatically closes online.
“Welcome to the Jungle”
Kindergarten Performance…Mark your calendars!!!
We have started practicing on the stage for our Jungle play. Assignment parts and costumes were sent home last week in your child’s Friday folder. If your child has a speaking part, please work with them on memorizing the part along with saying it loud and slow. Our kindergarten class will be performing the musical “Welcome to the Jungle” with two other kindergarten classes on Thursday, March 25th @ 5:30. The program will begin at 5:30 but the students will need to arrive to the classroom at 5:00. Since we have 7 kindergarten classes, 3 classes will perform at 5:30 and the other 4 classes will perform at 6:30. The show will last approximately 30 min. which will give us time to exit before the next group of eager parents arrive. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Don’t forget that on Thursday, March 4th from 5-8 pm, the kindergarten teachers will be at chick-fil-a for manatee night. We are hosting the Chick-Fil-A night at the Viera restaurant on Wickham road. The Kindergarten classes will be receiving a percentage of the sales to use within the grade level for future activities. Come out and support Manatee on March 4th and have dinner while you watch your teacher work!!! I will be busy greeting, passing out goodies/prizes, making milkshakes and a little bit of everything. I look forward to seeing you there.
Snack: Please remember that we have snack time every day and your child is responsible for bringing in their own daily snack. Please make this a part of your morning routine or have it as part of your nighttime routine to put it in the backpack the night before.
NEW KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
Kindergarten Orientation for new kindergarteners for next year will be held on Thursday, April 20th at 6:00 p.m. If you have a child who will be starting Kindergarten in August, please call the school office to confirm that you are coming to the meeting. You can also call the office if you are not sure of what school your child will attend due to redistricting.
Don’t forget Friday, February 26th is Bingo Night at Manatee, 5:30-7:30 p.m.! Bingo is free; a Pizza Meal Deal (2 slices of pizza, cookie and soft drink) can be purchased for $3.50 per person.
Keep clipping, saving and sending in the following items:
Box Tops, Campbell Soup Labels, Capri Sun Pouches & Pop Tops
Manatee will continue to collect General Mills box tops and the UPC from Campbell soup labels all year long as well as Capri Sun pouches. This is a great, easy way that you can help our PTO fund requests for classroom materials and manipulative request from teachers. Clipping these items will only cost you minimal time and effort. We are also collecting pop top tabs as we support the Ronald McDonald house through tab donations.
For those interested…
The following is a contest that your child is invited to participate in. It is optional and will be left up to you if you would like for them to participate in it. Please read the info. below and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask….
Doodle 4 Google Contest
· Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a competition where we invite K-12 students to work their artistic will upon our homepage logo. At Google we believe in thinking big and dreaming big, so this year we're inviting U.S. kids to exercise their creative imaginations around the theme, "If I Could Do Anything, I Would …"
· We're looking forward to the kids' answers too. Gather those art supplies and some 8.5" x 11"paper and encourage your students to enrich us all with their creative visions for what they would do in the world, if they could do anything.
· Entries are due to your classroom teacher by March 4th and Manatee teachers will help select the top 6 entries for our school.
That’s it, simple, easy, students can do it at home. IF you would like further information, here is the link http://www.google.com/doodle4google/index.html
