Writing Wall of Fame
Our “Writing Wall of Fame” recipient for this past week was Olivia. She was recognized on the news Thursday and her writing has been displayed all week in the cafeteria on the “Writing Wall of Fame”. We will now shift our time schedule for announcing the Writing Wall of Fame recipient. Due to some scheduling conflicts, the initial announcement will now be made on Friday in the weekly K-Connection as well as in our circle time. The writer’s work will be displayed on the “Writing Wall of Fame” the following Monday-Thursday and the recipient will be featured on the news on Wednesday. Sooo…to begin the new schedule, our next “Writing Wall of Fame” recipient that will be featured next week on the wall is Gabriel. He will appear on the news Wednesday as he is given his official “Writing Wall of Fame” pencil. Congratulations to our first three recipients, Camden, Olivia, and Gabriel.
We are still in need of boxes of graham crackers and cans of chocolate frosting if anyone wants to make a donation to our campfire smores collection. Don’t forget the campfire event on Tuesday, September 28th at 5:30, I hope to see you and your kindergarten child at Manatee in your pajamas. It is our 2nd annual kindergarten campfire planned exclusively for kindergarteners as it is an official introduction to the checking out process and procedures for our media center. If you volunteered to bring in a donation item, please send it in Monday so that I will know that we have everything covered. Please remember that this is a very special evening planned just for kindergarten where the K student will be able to check out their very first library book from the Manatee Media center so please make every attempt to join us on the 28th. I have attached the flyer if you would like to re-read it for specific information.
Scholastic Book Order
I have delayed the submission of the scholastic orders until next Friday, October 1st. This gives you an extra week to go online and shop for books. I will submit the order next Friday afternoon. At that point, the books usually arrive within a 2 week period. Thank you for your order and I hope you and your child enjoy your new books. Our next flyer will be in either late November or early December.
Student Parent teacher conferences
I would like to begin scheduling student parent teacher conferences. I am available before school, during my planning time at 9:00 or after school time depending on other commitments. I would also like to open the conference up for the student to attend as well except for my 9:00 conference time in which the student will be attending their daily activity. If you would prefer the conference without the student, then that is your choice. Please contact me with a time and day that is convenient for you and I will confirm or give you another day that is available. During the conference, I would like to discuss where your child is at the beginning of school pertaining to skills as well on share what area you can help with at home. I would also like to go over the homework that will be starting in October as well as discuss the progress report that will be distributed on October 20th. Please contact me so that I can begin scheduling our conferences. My goal is to meet with every family in the next couple of weeks.
Field trips & shirts
Our first field trip is scheduled for December 1 to Publix. I have pulled the approved chaperone list and I will be contacting those chaperones that have been approved. We also have 2 other field trips scheduled later in the year and will need chaperones for them as well. I can only invite chaperones who have been approved through the district so if you have not filled out the volunteer paperwork, please do so as soon as possible if you would like to chaperone one of our future field trips.
Pizza Gallery Pizza available
Only 1 week left to support the Manatee 5th graders in purchasing pre-baked pizza from Pizza Gallery. For each pizza that the 5th graders sell, they will earn $5 towards the cost of the camp. The pizza’s are made by pizza gallery and are packaged so that all you have to do is bake them. Details are available in the Manatee school newsletter and are also posted on the 5th grade web site. The sale will run through Oct. 5th.
In today’s Friday folder, there is a “Pizza” recording sheet for the “Book-It” program from Pizza Hut for the month of October. This is a fun and rewarding way to earn a free pizza for your child. It is very simple and probably something that you are already doing at your home. Your child will either need to read or be read to ten books during the month of October. After reading the book, record the title of the book and the author on a pizza slice. When all of the slices are full, return the sheet with your child’s name on it and I will present your child with a coupon for their own personal pizza. Only one coupon will be issued each month. Our classroom goal is to read 100 books during the month of October. The program begins on Friday, October 1st and goes through the month of March. This is optional but a great incentive for your child as well as discovering a new world when they are reading or being read to.
