Pop Tops are Back!

Welcome back to a fantastic new year at Manatee Elementary. Our Pop Top Recycling Project has returned once again this year and we are looking for your help! Each year, Manatee competes with schools from around Central Florida in the Ronald McDonald Pop Top Recycling Project. All pop tops that are collected are turned in to the recycling plant and the Ronald McDonald House of Central Florida receives all the proceeds.  This is an easy and effective way to give back to the community and help other families in need.

So, I hope you are asking yourself how you can help? It's easy, here's how.

  1. Begin collecting pop tops from home, church, sporting events, at your place of work, from relatives and friends in other cities and states.
  2. Periodically send your collection in to school with your child. Homeroom teachers collect the pop tops all year long.
  3. Mrs. Puschus keeps track of all class totals and hauls the pop tops to the recycling center in April.
  4. The top 3 classes win a full-blown ice cream party at the end of the year.
  5. The Ronald McDonald House is the real winner and our students learn a valuable lesson about giving back to our community.

You may begin sending in Pop Tops any time. Good luck, and hopefully we can make this a record year!

RECYCLING

Manatee's recycling programs are up and running!  Please have your child bring in newspapers to be recycled.  Classes that recycle the most newspapers each week will receive a treat and the class that does the best all year will win a pizza party. At Manatee we also recycle Capri Suns, snack size chip bags, and empty glue bottles and sticks.  Please also send in these items to help our school earn points through Terra Cycle.  Keep up the awesome recycling Manatee!

Recycling Fun - Toy Swap and Drop Off

November 15th is Keep America Beautiful's "America Recycles Day" at the Viera Regional Park (Rotary Pavilion) from 2:00-6:00 p.m. The event is free of charge and is basically to promote the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle). They will have a "Toy Swap/Drop Off" to get residents involved and benefit Brevard kids in need through the "4 the Kids of Brevard" organization. They will also have a few fun, educational games to entertain the kids and parents alike. Brevard County will be participating with information on what can be recycled/days of collection, and will bring sign-up sheets for recycle bin requests and for landfill tours. Parks and Recreation is co-sponsoring and will have a table at the pavilion. "4 the Kids of Brevard" will be present to take the toys dropped off at the event. Suntree/Viera Public Library will bring material to share and will be collecting books/magazines/DVDs. Students from BCC, the Brevard's Green Team, and other organizations will be there as well.

If your child has gotten clothes from the clinic, please return them. Please put some clothes in their backpack that they can keep in their cubbies.
