Reading: Our story this week is Animals Come Home to Our National Parks. Our reading skill this week continues to be Main Idea and Details. The main idea of a selection tells you what it is all about. The supporting details in the selection help you to understand the main idea. The main idea is often, but not always, stated in the first sentence. We will also focus on the literary elements of assonance and metaphor.
Our reading selection test will be on Friday.
Spelling: This week we are looking at words with long e. Our spelling test will be on Friday.
Writing: This week we will write a story about a time we got a haircut.
Grammar: We will continue to work on subjects and predicates as well as simple subjects and simple predicates. The subject of a sentence is the person, place, or thing the sentence tells about. The simple subject is usually a noun or pronoun-the main word or words in a complete subject. The predicate tells what the subject does or did.
The simple predicate is the verb-the action word or words linking the verb in the complete predicate.
Math: We will continue with Topic 2: Basic Multiplication. The Topic 2 Math test will be on Wednesday, September 8th.
I will usually send home a chapter review/ Pre-test for homework to help students prepare for the test.
MATH FACTS!!!
Parents, please continue working with your child on their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts. Our goal for our students at Manatee is to achieve completion of 100 math facts (unless otherwise noted) with 80% accuracy. You can work with your child using either store-bought or homemade flashcards, or visit http://www.kidsnumbers.com/ . Go to “Let’s Practice _____________(Mult, Div, Sub, Add)” It’s a fun way to practice!
I will be taking grades on all math facts quizzes after an initial baseline quiz.
Social Studies: This week we will be learning about basic geographic ideas and how Florida’s geographic location can be described in different ways. We will also learn about Florida’s landforms and bodies of water.
