The Writing Team would like to extend a school-wide challenge! We would like all of our young, writers at Manatee from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade to publish one book at home. In April, the two best books from each class will be selected and the authors will attend out 4th Annual Writing Celebrations in May 2011! There is no creative limit!

Writing is a wonderful opportunity to get families involved to share their experiences and personal memories to help our young students create fantastic published works of art. Our Writing Wall of Fame continues to create excitement for the writing process! Our Writing Celebrations will showcase our students' creativity, imagination & simple expressions using works from every grade level!

Each grade level will be assigned a Reading Genre Selection. The selected genres for third grade are journal, tall tale, realistic story and innovation on text. I am including a list of reading genres and their explanations. All books are due by March 18th. Hopefully, this challenge will open up discussions about the variety of book genres. If your child has his heart set on a genre other than what is listed for his grade level, that's fine, too. We just want to be sure to have a variety of different genres to submit. I will have examples on display in the classroom. Please stop by anytime to take a peek!

Start brainstorming! Go on a family adventure! Take the time to observe events going on around your family! Find a great idea to write about together! Most importantly, have fun with this creative writing challenge with your family!
